The pile drill is a very good drill and one that certainly should not be omitted. This is an extra drill that I use to get the dog used to retrieving and taking direction with a bumper in his mouth to build more focus to task and to aid in his handling. The training that is done that leads up to this point is done with additional remote retrieve, and remote drop and pick up drills added to the mix.

Border collie is one of the best trainable dogs out of all the breeds. They usually perform in obedience, fly ball, Frisbee and agility trials. If you obtain this dog, mere physical exercise will not keep the dog active. They should be given some task to keep their mind as well as body energetic.

Border collie is an extremely energetic dog. He needs open space to exercise and being a working sheep herding dog, he always performs tasks happily. He will get too bored and perhaps destructive when you make him sit in a place. Border Collie Obedience Training is very easy to carry out as the dog is extremely agile and intelligent.

The dog will be able to squat, spring and corner adeptly for the function of driving the disobedient cattle or sheep into line. The Border’s coat should be thick enough so that he can survive in cold days but excessive growth has to be cut.

Border collie obedience training includes grooming the dog with care. The water resistant coat of the dog needs to be brushed every other day. He should not be bathed often as the strips of the coat will lose its protective oils. Brushing will maintain the coat clean and healthy and also you should strengthen the emotional bonding with your pet to keep her healthy.

Border collie obedience training is not much difficult when compared to training other dogs since he does well in rally obedience, sheep herding trials and agility. Also, because of his medium size and higher intelligence level, he can be trained as rescue and search dogs. Normally, these dogs display stable temperament and they don’t shy away from the people. Those who are into Border collie obedience training will find that the dog is a faithful and loyal friend. He responds eagerly to the commands given by his owner and willingly performs the tasks.

During Border collie obedience training, you need to praise him a lot. Because, lots of praise makes him happy and he will perform excellently. You have to train him to mingle with people right from his young age. Then, there will be no problem in socializing and he will live fine with other dogs and children. When you bring this dog home, you have to pay him lot of attention and should keep him busy with lot of exercise and tasks.

Border collie lives for serving his owner and hence he may not like to lie idle in a corner of the house. Also, you should know that he can be destructive when he gets bored.

If you live in a small house, then you should not get Border collie. He needs lot of space to run and play. Border collie obedience training can be done efficiently only when you have lot of open space and time to train the dog. He always need your constant attention and will become neurotic if ignored. Border collies are normally pretty healthy but may suffer from eye disease, epilepsy, allergies to fleas’ and deafness.

Dog bathing is a must when living with a dog. Dogs naturally get smelly and are not like cats in being able to wash themselves well and be hygienic, this is why dog owners have to look after their dogs hygiene for them once in a while.

Dog bathing should take place when your dog starts to smell or is very dirty, some breeds of dog find it very hard to keep smelling pretty as you will quickly come to notice. Running around every day rubbing yourself up against trees, bushes, benches and rolling around on grass or getting drenched head to paws in rivers or puddles are all common occurrences in a dogs life and all contribute to dog smelliness.

It is important to make sure you brush your dogs coat and fur through before every bathing session to remove all bits of debris that may have got caught up in your dog’s fur since their last bath along with tangles or matted hair that may have formed. If you ignore this step any tangles and matted hair will get worse after bathing and make it an impossible task to rid of them.

You will need to use special pet shampoo and conditioner to clean your dog; human shampoo uses a different ph level and can be bad for your dog’s skin. Starting off by letting your dog get used to running water, warm water should be used to wash your dog, it is best to use a jug or container to gently pour water on your dog. Be sure not to put water directly on your dogs face to be sure not to frighten them off or scare them.

When your dog is wet, keep reassuring them and rewarding them if the behaviour is good to get the message across that bathing is not a bad thing. Rub the shampoo and conditioner onto your dog gently and being sure to do a proper job of getting all the smells and everything else out.

To finish off, rinse all the soapy water and shampoo of your dog and dry your dog in the same way you would yourself or if your dog has easily matted hair use patting only to dry your dog, when this is all done reward your dog with praise and rewards for being cooperative with you.

I have two small breed puppies, one is 10 months old and the other is 3 months old. I had been feeding them Hill’s Science Diet (the puppy kind), but my dog trainer told me the its main ingredient is corn, which supposely is not that healthy for dogs. So I started to feed them Nutro’s Natural Choice (also the puppy kind). But while I was transitioning them from one brand to the other I noticed that they really loved eating the mixed foods and they had become more “regular” in their elimination. They seem so happy that I was wondering if there is any harm in keep feeding them the two brands mixed together as their permanent food source. Has anybody has ever done this before? Is it ok? Thanks!

Buying commercial dog toys can be very expensive at times. You are also not 100% sure if they are safe to your canine pet. Some dog toys contain deadly toxins and chemicals that may be detrimental to your dog’s health. Other pet chews and toys also have lead components that can cause vomiting, poor appetite and dog’s diarrhea.

Though dog toys are not a necessity, they can play an important role in sustaining your dog agility while training him to be independent and boosting his confidence. They can also provide entertainment and keep your dog preoccupied and physically active all day long.

To make sure that the toys you give to your k9 are safe and non-toxic, why not make simple homemade dog toys yourself? Here are a few ideas on how to make dog toys from recyclable materials that can be found in comfort of your home:

Rope Dog Toy

To make this simple homemade dog toy, an old towel or handkerchief and scissors will be needed. Cut about 4 inches of strips of towel along the end then bundle the strips together to create a knot. Afterwards, braid your strips together and until 3 inches from the end. Voila, as simple as that, you have a nice little rope dog toy!

Gutless Fleece Dog Toy

You will need 9 feet of rope and a can of 3 tennis balls. Begin by placing one tennis ball in a clamp. With the use of a drill, make a hole through the tennis ball.

Water Bottle Dog Toy

Making this homemade dog toy is so easy. All you need are an empty water bottle and popcorn kernels. The bottle can either be small or large in size. Start by unscrewing the top off the bottle and place about a tablespoon of popcorn kernels inside.

Rope Dog Chews

If you have old ropes that are not being used, tie several knots at each end to make a homemade dog toy for fetching and chewing.

The abovementioned ideas for homemade dog toys can help you save a great deal of money. Bear in mind, however, that you need to supervise your dog whenever he plays with these homemade dog toys. Check them for any damage to avoid choking or the ingestion of parts.
